Shortly after birth, his mother rejected him — something that can happen with first-time or stressed mothers in captivity. Punch was hand-raised by zookeepers. So the keepers gave him something simple — an oversized orange plush toy. He bonded with it instantly. He carried it everywhere. Dragged it behind him. Slept with it.
