Hemiversary: the anniversary of the day surgeons removed half my daughter’s brain in hopes of stopping seizures. One year later and we aren’t eating cake, doing a photo shoot, or blowing up balloons to celebrate her “happy hemiversary” of being seizure free. Honestly, there’s nothing happy about this day for me. I’m still devastated the surgery didn’t work. That my kid fell on the wrong side of statistics when the odds were so much in her favor. So, while we are not celebrating one year of seizure freedom like we had so desperately hoped, we can celebrate our families ability to survive.
