This moment right here… I had forgotten all about this image until @ctmollere sent it to me the day @bobweir embarked on his next adventure. One Big Holiday 2014. Bobby had already played his festival and stayed around after to have some fun with us. We were kicking around song ideas and decided to tackle the @gratefuldead “I Know You Rider.” His only direction was “I want the whole band energy to come down to a whisper for the verse starting with ‘I wish I was a headlight, on a northbound train.’ When I sing that line again, I want you all to come back in full force.” I don’t think that he took into account that @mymorningjacket can be a very loud band. When he started that second line, I totally let it rip…we all did…and the energy that took over his body was so moving…so brilliant. He let out this scream “wooooooooooooooo” that I’ll NEVER forget. It was literally the same scream as the one at the end of the first verse of “St. Stephen.” That was the moment it went from “I’m playing with Bob Weir” to “dear god…I’m sharing a moment with the energy of the Grateful Dead.” I get chills just writing about it. After the song was over, he walked back to me shaking his head…he looked me in the eyes and said “Beautiful.” And then a loving fist bump.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 📷 @levrockphotography
