ANGELA GREY & FRIENDS!!!! My first year (and definitely not the last) as a jam host at @ducdeslombards has come to an end. I want to give a big, heartfelt thank you to every musician who has played in my house band this past year, as well as to everyone from all over the world who has come out to play at my sessions. A lot of people have asked why I always emphasize that my jam session is a Vocal Jam. The reason is that, although I’ve grown to love the traditions of jazz throughout my life, I often felt uncomfortable—or even unwelcome—as a vocalist when attending jam sessions early in my career. Vocalists are not always given the same respect or appreciation as instrumentalists, unless they first ‘prove’ their talent. But that’s not what a jam session is about— it’s not where we come to be ‘perfect’. Jam sessions should be a space for all musicians, at all levels, to come together, have fun, and most importantly, learn from one another. I hope my jam sessions have helped foster that spirit, and that we can all continue to find joy in the music we love so much— together. Here are some of my favorite moments from this past year. As we all go on summer break, I hope to see you again soon in September ! ❤️ 1) look at me mom, I’m a jam host 2) the best jazz club in the world, run by the best people in the world: @ammadaks @tanguyansselin @carinenguyen17 @julian_ross93 3) I told you, jam sessions are for having fun. I for one, as a host, am never perfect. So, don’t come to my jam thinking you have to be either! 4) Billie Holiday’s spirit lives on through @nicollerochelle_official 5) the most swingin’ musicians of the Paris Jazz scene 6) @rahsaancrusejrofficial giving us exactly what we need 7) 3 guitars?!?! Say no more @sebastien_giniaux @gustavereichertmusic @michaelvaleanu 8) having both @bradmehldauofficial & @samarajoysings sharing the same stage at my jam session is a moment in history— and I don’t say that lightly (Continued in comments…)
