𝐖𝐞’𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐢𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐝 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 As Sir David Attenborough celebrates his 100th birthday, we are proud to reflect on his connection to @UniofReading during our own centenary year. When he visited Reading in 2011, he passionately advocated for the importance of helping children connect with the natural world through education, saying: “Bringing nature into the classroom can kindle a fascination and passion for the diversity of life on earth and can motivate a sense of responsibility to safeguard it.” His words continue to resonate with us today. In 2022, Sir David showed incredible kindness to support Reading’s Botanical University Challenge, further helping to encourage the next generation of plant scientists and celebrating student passion for the natural world. As we look to our second century, that commitment to sustainability and climate education remains central to who we are, and through the launch of a new Outdoor Learning Garden on our Whiteknights campus, we hope to inspire learning beyond the classroom for children and young people in our community for generations to come. Happy 100th birthday, Sir David, and thank you for inspiring so many people to better understand and care for the world around us. #UoR100 #DavidAttenborough #FromTheArchives
